Ho Ho Ho…w’s your health this winter?

Posted by Neo G on

The final month of the year is here! Christmas preparations may be underway, work might be picking up to meet end-of-year deadlines or perhaps you’ve got lots of social events planned, but your health is one thing you shouldn’t forget amongst all these distractions. In this post, we’ve listed a few reminders for the most common health problems people neglect as we near the end of the year, including diet and nutrition, skin care and foot care.

Reminder: Enjoy your Christmas dinner but don’t forget… your vitamins!

When we’re caught up in a seemingly never-ending stream of social events leading up to Christmas and the New Year, a healthy diet and lifestyle can easily go out of the window. Although you don’t necessarily have to curb the treats this month, stocking up on a couple of vitamins can help to supply your body with the extra nutrition it needs. Taking a daily multivitamin can provide you with a range of vital nutrients which you might be lacking at this time of year - especially Vitamin D as the days are getting shorter and the sun is showing itself less and less!

Reminder: Enjoy the winter weather but don’t forget… to moisturise!

Not only moisturising but also choosing the correct moisturiser for your skin is vital, especially during winter. The first step is to figure out your skin type; normal, oily, combination, dry or sensitive. It is a total misconception that only people with dry skin need to moisturise, however – it should be a fundamental step in everyone’s daily routine. If you don’t know which type your skin falls under, taking a test such as Nivea’s or getting tested by a professional at a skincare or makeup counter will put you on the right track to finding your perfect moisturiser and protecting your skin against the harsh winter weather.

Reminder: Enjoy the Christmas shopping but don’t forget… to keep your feet comfy!

For some, Christmas shopping is something to dread and for others, it’s a personal challenge to shop ‘til you drop! Just remember, if you’ve got an all-day shopping trip or you’re going to be wandering around the Christmas markets, make sure to have comfy footwear. Choosing your trusty worn-in boots can help to avoid painful and blistered feet as you walk from shop to shop, but adding an insole to your shoe can provide extra cushioning to your feet. If you’re unlucky enough to suffer from conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis, which will make Christmas shopping absolute agony, switching your regular socks for Plantar Fasciitis Socks may also help to make Christmas shopping slightly more bearable.

(…And for those who love to shop ‘til you drop, you might even be able to squeeze in an extra hour before you drop!)

Reminder: Enjoy the Christmas preparations but don’t forget… to reduce your stress!

Popping out for last minute decorations and Christmas dinner ingredients, to drop off a Christmas present or two at a friend’s house or to visit friends before the New Year all feature on many people’s to-do lists at this time of year. While Christmas and New Year are often very enjoyable, it can also be extremely stressful, with pressure to get things done before the Christmas deadline as well as the financial stress of paying for food and presents adding to this season’s pressure. Many people find themselves getting ill at this time of year with the flu, a sickness bug or a cold sore. Don’t let yourself get run down with stress. Take time out of each day to wind down and relax, whether that be with a hot bath, a good book or time out with family!
